She was a pioneer and key member of the intensive aphasia program at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on treatment outcomes for adults with neurological communication disorders.  She is the author of several journal publications and book chapters on treatment for communication disorders following stroke and other neurologic problems, including a book entitled What is it like to have trouble communicating?:  A series of simulations to educate family, friends, and caregivers.  She is the author of a recently published book entitled Narrative-Based Practice in Speech-Language Pathology.  Dr. Hinckley was a Board Member of the National Aphasia Association for eight years. The Aphasia Program is supervised by Dr. Bartels-Tobin. Both Drs. Hinckley and Bartels-Tobin, as well as other knowledgeable and professional clinicians, may be assessing and treating clients in the Aphasia Center.
